The Importance of Output Randomness in Quake
I actually kind of feel like both bits of randomness have gotten a really bad rap for a really long time but especially output randomness. I think people really hated input randomness too it's just like amazing stepping back and seeing like you know like in Quake we went from a world where like guns respond at exact timings that you could memorize the UK who's against your opponent to a world where guns are placed in random places. So I feel like the framing structure of it has always been wrong and it's really exciting to see it. It can still go too far like with this thing with like putting mechs in Fortnite and people think they're too powerful Like clearly it
