Fernando Zampere is an assistant professor in the Department of Critical Care Medicine at the University of Alberta. His article was published in the June 13th issue of JAMA entitled Fluid Therapy in Critically Ill Adults. There are two main mechanisms for a decrease in intravascular volume in sepsis, and the major one seems to be vasodilization.
