Is Explanatory Instructions Better Than Exposed Instructions?
The way that we learn new mathematical skills is fundamentally the same. There's an analysis stage where we study the particular thing, and we understand it in as much as we can while we're reading it. So if that works for work examples, does that work also for problems that were a solution is not presented? It's important not to caricature the variety of classrooms where problem solving or inquiry works. But if you're not presenting that solution, where’s the solution coming from?
