If your recognition of what's normal is always kind of a learned thing, then you may be more equipped to do something abnormal. And again, much of this is situational. The person who is well equipped for a medical emergency may be the person who has a stress response to public speaking. Your air of unflappability may be broken when you have to take care of patients who remind you of your son or who are very similar in age to yourself.
