The Role of Lactate in Muscle Adaptation

Lactate is a signaling molecule that seems to regulate maybe even on an epigenetic level where it's upregulating meaning increasing the transcription of genes. Coaches and athletes have learned just empirically to measure lactate they don't really completely understand what it's doing but they know that when it's too high it's bad when it's increasing it's too hard. If the lactate is really low it's probably too easy training so coaches and athletes are using what they call threshold training quite effectively.
