The system of mass media enabled a company to invent somebody who could fill airtime because airtime needed to be filled. Walmart, a retailer worth eight times more than Amazon, exists because of a system that was built 63 years ago. Why does the container ship matter? Well, it turns out that if you have a company with a trucking fleet, you can't deliver the stuff by truck much faster.
