CHAPTER

The Battle of Hastings

After months of delay, they finally had their big showdown. The Battle of Hastings began around 9am on October 14th 1066. It quickly turned into a brutal stalemate. Rumors spread that William had been killed so the spooked knights started to run away. This left big gaps in the English shield wall which allowed Norman cavalry to get in and take out lots of troops. But when Duke William took off his helmet to prove he wasn't dead, the relieved Normans suddenly turned around and started attacking again. And the chase became the chasers, and lots of English troops were killed.
