Josephine and Alexandre's Story

Alexandre Boarnay and his wife, Josephine, were both convicted of betraying the French Republic. The couple reconciled while awaiting their deaths in a Paris prison. Alexandre was executed by the guillotine on July 24, 1794 - just two days before Robespierre dramatically lost control of the convention. As you might imagine, surviving such a close call deeply affected Josephine.
