There's nothing about wiring in place that guarantees they will work together. Often, it's very much the opposite. This reminds me of Daniel Kahneman's idea of brain one, brain two, thinking fast, thinking slow. Both of them are useful in certain situations, but they can often work at crosshairs against each other. Exactly. And they don't work together. There's a possibility that coincidentally, they can, but they don't deliberately work together. So how do we resolve this tension between the primitive guidance systems and the intelligence guidance system? Well, many years ago, when I was profoundly obsessed with this whole matter of why people don't follow through and what I could
