Lactic acid is what causes your muscles to burn during exercise and you should warm down after exercise like that's a very concise sound bite. Actually going into all this biochemistry and all these physiological measurements took many many minutes in the lab so I think fortunately unfortunately things related to training and physiology are never as simple as you first read it. The only place where you get oxygen in the entire chain of metabolism is in the electron transport chain which happens in the mitochondrial inner membrane. Anaerobic processes are happening all the time at every intensity but now we have a historical context for why that is.
