The Importance of Specificity in Strength
I was overweight my whole life. I can walk up 30 flights of stairs all day long, but walking down a single flight of stairs hurts my knees. We tend to train concentric strength because gravity helps you. The eccentric part of the movement is the brakes. As we age, that becomes the more important and more dominant strength.
