The Self-Referential Network in Meditation and Mindfulness

There's a part of the brain called the default mode network. This is what we default to when we're not doing anything in particular. And it's been shown to be active when we are basically thinking about ourselves. So meditation and mindfulness seem to specifically target this self-referential network. We can actually line up people's subjective experience with their brain activity by giving people feedback.
