The Evolution of Product to Platform
I believe you have to earn the right to be a platform. Being a platform means that you're doing one thing and you're doing it well enough for a large enough audience of people. To have a really meaningful platform opportunity, you need to start from a place of doing something well that's pretty low on the stack. Solving those core needs makes Slack a very fruitful place upon which you can introduce snippets of experiences from other applications. And I think that, you know, old school platforms got into this mode where they kind of took this territorial point of view.
