The book went a long way towards convincing me that even in those cases attempting to make some measurement is better than not at all. Sometimes you don't actually need to be able to measure the thing itself. And as long as it's sort of sufficiently predictive, it might be good enough. The other thing that I've learned in this area of thinking is paying careful attention to base rates.
