We're Better at Advising Others Than We Are Ourselfs
We have evolved the capacity to think about ourselves more similar to how we think about others. When people use their own name to work through their problems, we call this distanced self talk. It provides them with psychological distance which in turn helps them pursue their goals and perform better under stress.
