The Role of HDL in Heart Disease
The triglyceride to HDL ratio is the single most important risk factor for determining heart disease. If you have a 1.5 or less ratio, you'll probably live forever; if it's 2.5 or greater, you've got a problem. The different molecules that we've been talking about are evolutions of each other in terms of how they get made and processed by the liver. And so when you get a lab testing lipid profile, you're getting basically a snapshot of where those are at any given moment.
