The Battle of Poitiers
The story of the Valois dukes of Burgundy ended on a battlefield. The French army commanded by King John II attacked a hungry, thirsty, vastly outnumbered force of English at Poitiers in central France. One of those knights was a fiery 14-year-old named Philip who stayed close to his father until the English finally overwhelmed them. When they were ransomed back from England several years later, King John went about carving out inheritances for each of his four sons.
