Are You Making a Decision Tree?
The act of coming up with the utility evaluations is a inescapably subjective assessment that you are making based on your model of the world and your knowledge. No one's better equipped to make these estimates than you are. And so, yeah, you can make a mistake, you could be just totally wrong about something. But also you're not going to make a worse decision than you would have made just not making them.
