The inefficiency principle is this idea that innovation and efficiency are mutually opposable goals. You cannot increase one without decreasing the other. The problem is to be ignorant of the principle and think that you can do both like you could drive a car in two different directions at the same time. What you give up culturally in the organization is the ability to innovate.
