Somerset's Response to York's Challenge in 1452
For the first time since 1399, a major noble had raised a private force and was determined to affect a change in government. Somerset's response to York's challenge in 1452 was to turn Henry VI into a simulacrum of an active king. He announced that Henry VI would lead an expedition to retake Gaskany but it never actually happened.
