The Role of Variability in Movement Learning

The more strategies a coach can use to teach an athlete, the wider the variety of tools. A good example is the jerk, where you essentially have the bar on your shoulders and then you have to get it overhead usually by splitting your feet forward and backward in a scissor like fashion. So I'll have to put pieces around so that they can't land their feet in certain positions because maybe they're less efficient or it'll screw up other portions of the lift. And as Kevin said again, they haven't developed those foundational skills of basic body awareness and building up the physical qualities for lifting weights.
