Self-limiting, meaning don't make it so easy and stay in a lower energy expenditure. If you can't deep squat, ask to grass without discomfort. And if you can't balance on one foot for about 20 seconds eyes open and 10 seconds eyes closed, then do whatever you got to do to get those things before you worry about running.
