I was basically a mathematician at that time, so I wasn't horrified by all the mathematics. It just didn't seem very real to me. So there's a major attempt going on in economics, not just in Berkeley, but everywhere, to reduce everything to mathematical theorems. But I found it in the room for me. And this is fascinating, isn't it? Because you started to study economics. And after the real world of experience in Düsseldorf, while you were studying economics, you started to find that it just wasn't quite a good fit for how you thought.
