i think that oftentimes, especially in a social mediate environment, people are very uncharitable and waiting to pounce on any inconsistency or hole in somebody else's argument. We kind of need to be brave to challen our assumptions about what other people are like. In order to cultivate that bravery, we need to feel as though we are socially safe. So ampathy, compassion and mutual support, shared values lay the foundation for more open minded and productive disagreement.
