Introduction

This week on Freakonomics Radio, we continue our series Everything You Never Knew About Whaling. Jorn Basperg is an economic historian at the Norwegian School of Economics in Bergen. Norway today has only about a dozen whaling ships, which take in some 500 whales a year. We'll find out why most countries abandoned whaling to quickly and why the outliers didn't. And we'll hear from the whales themselves - they were actually singing songs!
