Memory Consolidation Is Facilitated by Sleep
It's thought that memory consolidation is facilitated by sleep. There is evidence that declarative memoris, so that's memory for explicitly articulable facts and things, may be facilitated during slow wayf sleep. The idea is that the hippocampus is kind of re playing different bits of stimuli aand that that helps to reinforce the synapses across the cortex where the memories are stored.
