Joseph: I'm not sure that the complainer feels some relief in inducing frustration in the other person. More often, both people just wind up feeling frustrated because the problem as an internal feeling problem has been misrepresented as an external world problem. The helper feels rejected of I gave you what you wanted, I gave you some ideas, you've rejected them all. Both people can wind up feeling pretty pissed off with each other.
