The Free Man's Rights

By the end of the 13th century, Chris Dyer now estimates that the majority of males were free men. That can't be said, I think, in 1200, so it would be not considerable. And a free man is what do you have to do to be? Is it property? Yes. You've got to be of that standing. No women or children. So in that sense, it's a restricted sort of justice, really. We just talked about man opposite, but who is a free man, and how do you get to be a free man? The proportion of the population are free men, those are problematic questions.
