The Importance of Hydration in the Race Environment
The day before the race, it's not just drinking gallons and gallons of plain water. We want to look at the sodium or salt that we're adding to foods or the saltiness of the foods we're eating but still drink fluids. The more fit we are, the more fluid loss we will have as a result of adaptations from our training. Some athletes may do direct some sodium loading the night before,. about 10 to 12 hours before the race start.
