I think it's really important to let people know that they can come back. And sometimes people just, they need to go and do something else for a while. You don't want to manage your team like the hotel of California where you can never check in or leave. I'm just not sure that new managers are on par or good managers even with the right training. It doesn't mean they're bad people, but they're probably bad at their job.
