The Importance of Pacing for a Marathon

If you're stretching yourself to a marathon i think it's probably intelligent to be on the conservative side in your pacing strategy over the first half of the race. If if you don't have good 5k 10k speed then you're not going to be particularly good in the marathon either, says coach Renato Canova. "Speed is the key ingredient even down the road for the marathon when we get you better at 5k when better at 3000 meters you've got some speed reserve down the road," he adds.
