Eating Cookies vs. Eating Salad?
The total amount of calories does matter in a sense, but to me the more important thing is the sort of the quality of that. What you do with those calories and what your body does with those calories is important because if it goes directly into fat stores, then obviously you're going to gain fat. It's designed to be addictive, but it's not designed to be particularly satiating. And so it's way easier as a result to go overboard on them. The hormonal response to that is completely different than eating ice cream for dinner.
