The Importance of Virtue Ethics in a Postmodern Society
In the last chapter of my book I try to put my own values on the table and what I argue for in a way it's a little less original than some of the other stuff in the book. There were two broadly speaking or we might say two and a half influences on my value program that I allowed in the book, which is critical theory and virtue ethics. The central virtue has to be compassion but not as an emotional empathy where you just feel other people's pain but rather a outward directed action motivated by compassion. Some versions of virtue ethics can be very selfish and so the ideas that you can flourish and screw everybody else are entangled with each other because they're all about systems.
