There are three core benefits to regret. It improves our decision making, problem solving skills and it deepens our sense of meaning. But no one ever teaches us how to avoid regrets through anticipation. We need some guard rail. Sometimes anticipated regrets makes t gives us risk ofverse choices. There is a lot of research in social psychology describing forms of decision making that can be maximised or satisficing. Maximisers are miserable, because you can't maximize everything. And if every decision has this incredible sense of urgency we're going to drog yourself bonkers so we can have all our regrets.
