It took me eight months to get back on the bike. The thing that got me back into racing wasn't the fact that i regained my fitness. It was a fact that i had to train my brain to overcome the thoughts, or, if you will, the past thoughts of getting hit. So i had to re train my brain through various different mechanisms to overcome that fear. And its about how do we retrain those neural patterns that we once knew that have been cut off, literally sown off? There is so much more to fitness, to sport, than just the repetitive action of cycling.
