Liberal Oxygen Therapy Reduces Mortality by 1.6 Percentage Points

A small effect like this has the potential to have global public health importance. If liberal oxygen therapy truly did reduce mortality by 1.6 percentage points, then we would be looking at saving an excess of 50,000 patients per year in the United States alone. The results certainly apply in that intensive care unit, but for me, the patients in this study were quite different to the patients that I look after. It's really reassuring to see that there's no overt harm from a slightly liberal oxygen regimen.
