The Effects of Biomechanical Factors on Running Economy
The metabolic is really our submaximal oxygen consumption at a given speed. It's to do with literally how much oxygen are you, are you needing to take in to cover that that speed or go a certain distance depending on the units we use. And then by mechanically, by mechanics, people often tend to talk more in terms of maybe efficiency and so the energy that is required rather than the metabolic costs. But equally, you can go down the route of looking at the metabolic cost and how that relates to that and how we're using the oxygen consumption. So it depends on how we express whether it's from an energy demand or an oxygen consumption perspective.
