The recommended daily dietary allowance was originally developed during World War II to create nutritious rations for soldiers. The RDA's have been updated in some cases since then, but they still represent the minimum amount of a nutrient a person needs in order to avoid a malnutrition trigger disease. It's not the optimal amount that's really going to make us thrive and feel and perform our best.
