The damage that I've seen a lot of the PTSD from people talking to them is when someone commented on their like an attribute or character. And man, that stuff really stays with them for multiple jobs. So you got to really mean it if you're going to offer praise. You don't want to sound patronizing or insincere. Don't dish it out before you prove you can take it.
