S3 Ep 23: Breaking the Cycle of Trauma in Your Family
Raising Good Humans
The Parasympathetic Response to Trauma
We are built to metabolize stress and then bounce back from it. Our nervous system is structured so that we enter into what we call the parasympathetic response, which is rest and recovery after being in a state of stress. However, when the experiences that you're having are so chronic or so abundantly harmful that they are not allowing you to enter rest and recovery, your nervous system is going to become frozen in a survival mode. And it's going to be very sensitive and tender to any kind of stress that's around,. This can promote more stress and create within you a default of being in a stress body and in a stress mind.
