The Effects of Botulinum Toxin on Muscle Growth
In order for that electrical signal in the nerve to transmit across that gap and have an effect on the muscle, that electric signal has to be translated into a chemical signal. Acetylcholine is released at the presynaptic. end of your nerve from the nerve ending,. It travels across that gap and binds to a receptor on your muscle end. And then that is what actually causes your muscle to go, Hey, I'm going to contract and boom, contracts Gotcha? Okay. So how does botulism work? Well it turns out that botulinum toxin blocks the release of acetylcholine from that presynaptic nerve ending. Does that make sense?
