It's really about expectations that other people are paying attention to us all the time but if we're acutely self-conscious, like for all of seventh grade I had a pimple right here in the crevice of my nose and I thought everybody was noticing that. By the same token I might have felt like a complete loser in seventh grade. Nobody notices that I'm even walking through the hallways. This would be on other days and on those days actually people were more aware of my presence than I would have given myself credit for. And it really comes back to, as I said before, expectation.
