Learning to Read, Write, and Do Arithmetic

In hunter-gatherers, there's no written language. They don't even have number words in most of their languages beyond one, two, and many. Reading and writing is not part of the culture. Maybe if you grow up in a culture with words... maybe you won't learn to read and write and do arithmetic unless you are required to do so. Because this is a kind of foreign activity that would have been in existence during the most of your evolution. This is why we need schools that deliberately teach reading and writing and writing.
