There are only certain shells that could ever potentially have arisen. And so the argument by analogy is that something similar happens with human societies. That there are no other kinds of societies that would make sense to make. I find that this social suite that we find in humans also is in elephants, for instance. We have by independent evolution converged on the same solution - just like two species might independently converge on an eye.
