The History of MySpace

My Space was created as a clone of Friendster. They were envious of the fact that Friendster's emails to sign people up to the service were coming from other friends and thus had a very high email open rate and a very high conversion. Part of it was because of pressures going on in the rest of the business, they're worried about being laid off. And so they make the social network. They made it pretty hastily. It was actually a mistake that people could post HTML code to it, which allowed for a lot of customization that My Space was later known for.
