The philosopher theodoridorno called the expert listener, somebody who is attentive to each moment of music's unfolding. Eno realized before practically anybody else that there's a lot more kinds of attention than diamond hard focus. There's also middle ground attention, like what i just described as a kind of extreme foreground attention. And eno in his idea of ambient music asically, like, what if you wrote music that can hang out at a variety of focal distances?
