Cood, Would and Should, and the L Sound in the 15th Century
Cood didn't actually have an l sound in its original form, which was cotha. But it acquired its l since it was closely associated with would and should. And if you have a good memory, you might recall that the loss of the l sound in those words also affected the word cod.
