The Role of Muscle Damage in Hypertrophy
The two processes are so completely different from each other that it's almost amazing that people ever consider the possibility that muscle damage causes hypertrophy. It's just on a muscle fiber level, they're not the same thing at all. But as you say, we absolutely are going to get elevations in myofibril protein synthesis to replace damaged myofibrils. And I think this also went back to the greater hypertrophy they saw from some of those eccentric versus concentric contraction studies.
