How Self-Compassion Helps Cope With Pain and Emotion

The brain is designed to create a sense of self, project that sense of self into the past and the future. It's natural to have this negativity biased when we feel threatened to go into fight, fight or freeze mode. The kindness gives us the sense of loving, remembering common humanity helps us feel connected. When pain arises, we hold it in loving connected presence. So we're aware of it, but there's also some space around it.
