The Importance of Maintaining Muscle Mass
Muscle mass decreases approximately 3 to 8% per decade after the age of 30. Women in late perimenopause and postmenopause had significantly higher likelihood of developing sarcopenia, a condition of involuntary muscle mass. Circopenia is caused by a combination of factors, including hormonal changes, decreased physical activity and inadequate nutrition. A sedentary lifestyle and insufficient protein intake can also contribute to the loss of muscle mass.
